The liberation of Phnom Penh on January 7, 1979, marked the end of the Khmer Rouge regime, after four years of terror and 1.8 million deaths. Fourteen-year-old Su Chenda, a former child soldier, went into exile in Switzerland. Proeu Un Mao was only six years old when she arrived in Fribourg. The testimonies of these two women offer a personal perspective on exile and the relationship they forged with Switzerland.
