At first glance, the family of Olivier and Anna Dehaudt from Grimisuat seems to be typically representative of the conservative Catholic community. He is the director of the organisation “Choisir la vie” (“Choosing life”), she has always rejected all forms of contraception, together they have six children. In this family hymns are sung and the Bible is quoted. But over the course of their individual interviews with Pauline Vrolixs, Anna and Olivier Dehaudt each confess to some astonishing truths. Anna, who relies on the calendar method for contraception, admits that only one of her six children was actually planned. The others were “surprises”, conceived during periods when they’d actually wanted to take a break between births. Oliver, whose Christian faith appears to be unshakable, admits that, once upon a time in another life, he advised a former partner to have an abortion, something he will never forget.
