How active service belittled women – told through my grandparents' love letters. Eighty years ago, my grandfather joined active service, along with 710,000 men, to build the Reduit. They became heroes. The women took over their men's work, but were neither paid nor recognized for it. This reverberates to this day. A Swiss anti-emancipation story.
