Most Swiss only became aware of the Formula 1 Grand Prix in Abu Dhabi because of the case of Maudet and Barazzone. The two Geneva politicians had the unfortunate idea of accepting an invitation to the emirates. Jérôme Galichet and Anastase Liaros reveal that the Grand Prix is primarily an excuse for three days of absolute freedom. They work without big cameras, using simple smartphones, because the authoritarian regime does not like journalists. During the Grand Prix, motor sport takes second place in the oil-monarchy, which operates under Sharia – the Islamic system of law. The true passion is for business – business with the royal family, and everything related to oil and luxury. To this end, anything goes on the luxury yachts and in the hotels – even alcohol, prostitution, nudity – it’s like being in a bubble of unrestrained liberalism.
