With occupations of slaughterhouses, spectacular actions against McDonald’s and an aggressive operation at a dairy, the movement 269Life Libération Animale – Suisse has been attracting attention for several months. By means of shock tactics and civil disobedience, the activists dedicated to the cause of the animals reach a large audience and become a subject of political debate. Séverine Chave accompanied the fearless 19-year-old Elisa Keller and witnessed as she provoked police interventions to gain more media attention. The antispecist movement denounces the prevailing culture which justifies the exploitation of animals by drawing a distinction between humans and other animals. Their aggressive operations are, however, also widely denounced, even among vegans.
