As we were in the midst of the first wave of Covid-19, I met Sangar Ahmad, a rejected Iraqi Kurdish asylum seeker. He worked for a disinfection company operating in hospitals, among other places. Despite a record mobilization in the canton of Vaud—more than 10,000 people signed a petition of support—Sangar was unable to stay in Switzerland.
