What’s It Like To Be A Clown? (Swiss Press Audio 2019, by Caroline Toussaint) - Swiss Press Award
Radio Fréquence Jura
Caroline Toussaint
As a child, Caroline Toussaint dreamed of becoming a clown, so she would always be happy. In fact, she became a journalist. But when the employees of BNJ FM Radio were tasked with fulfilling a personal dream at work, she wanted to learn more about the clowns who had fascinated her so much as a child. On the street, she met Scribbles, who transforms balloons into panthers or pirate swords. Later, in a circus, Coperlin juggles the absurd without wearing a red nose. And finally, in hospital, Dr. Chic, who helps the little patients to temporarily leave their fears behind. A report that momentarily takes the listener on a poetic flight of fancy. These days, being a clown is far less likely to involve throwing pies at one another’s faces. The accounts by the three clowns underscore that the most important part is still the same: to make people laugh or at least to win a smile. A chance to catch a glimpse of the child within us.
