The train from Istanbul to Kars travels across Turkey. This journey from west to east is not only a metaphor for how the country is increasingly distancing itself from Europe. The various stations the train passes through also provide a glimpse into how Turkey has changed between 2014 (Erdogan's election as head of state) and 2018 (the introduction of the presidential system).
