In “Zündstoff” (Tinder), a six-part podcast series, journalist Franziska Engelhardt, tells together with her colleague Stefanie Müller-Frank the story of her father Karl. Karl is a hoarder and troublemaker in the quaint Zurich village of Knonau. After he only barely escapes from his jam-packed burning house one day, the daughter decides to go public with the case, since: ”Everyone knows about him. I might as well tell my version of the story.” It becomes a search for clues with many witnesses and rumours. What do the pastor and the baker know? Did a neighbour set fire to Karl’s house in anger? Was Karl arrested for making death threats to two former officials? The daughter remembers her father as a loveable man. But when his first thoughts after six months in solitary confinement are about how he can sue the state for forced eviction, the hope that Karl will stop seeing himself as a victim vanishes.
