Markus Häfliger and Thomas Knellwolf

This is a joint submission by Thomas Knellwolf and Markus Häfliger. In a comprehensive investigation, they demonstrated that paid collectors are forging signatures on a large scale in federal popular initiatives. Although federal and cantonal authorities have known about the problem for years, they failed to inform the public.

Studied International Relations at the HEID in Geneva. He began his career in journalism in 1994 at the "Aargauer Tagblatt" and from 1996 at the "Aargauer Zeitung." From 2002, he served as Federal Palace Editor on the founding team of the "NZZ am Sonntag," later becoming its domestic affairs editor. From 2011 to 2015, he was Federal Palace Editor at the NZZ. From March 2016 to August 2024, he was Federal Palace Editor and Reporter at the "Tages-Anzeiger" and the other Tamedia newspapers.
