The Simplon, one of the most famous ships on the lakes, nearly sank on the rocks of Cully over Easter weekend. Mathieu Rudaz and Erwan Le Bec's investigation meticulously reconstructed the weather and the details of those days of crisis. We showed how all the signs of a historic storm were ignored, calling into question the governance of Swiss lake companies.

Mathieu Rudaz is a designer on the interactive team. He works in visual journalism after studying at the Lausanne School of Art and Design and training in data journalism at Columbia University. He received the Suva Media Prize in 2020 and was nominated for the Swiss Press Award in 2019.
