In 1803, the Spanish nurse Isabel Zendal brought the smallpox vaccination across the Atlantic to the Americas—together with a team of doctors, the only woman to do so. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Zendal is considered the first nurse on an international mission. Nevertheless, she was long forgotten. The SRF Zeitblende tells the story of the medical pioneer.
