Expensive drugs for rare diseases: Rare diseases aren't actually that rare. Approximately 7 percent of the population suffers from one of the 8,000 rare diseases. The problem: Often, there are no specific drugs available, or the so-called "orphan drugs" are very expensive. Who should pay for such treatments? There are no easy answers to these ethical questions.
