For about half a century, Mexico saw little high-quality public architecture. Politicians and architects focused on prosperity. But recently, there's been a sense of optimism: a young generation of architects, commissioned by the left-wing president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, or AMLO for short, who was elected in 2018, is dedicated to improving the living spaces of the poorest people.
