There are 2.2 million people living in Switzerland without a Swiss passport. Many of them have a residence or settlement permit. However, if these people receive "too much" social assistance, this can jeopardize their permit; this happens quite often. The authorities are working too closely together, and the Federal Supreme Court protects this discrimination.
