Children deprived of food, locked up, thrown to the ground, left in their own excrement, or dragged from one room to another by their clothes: in the canton of Geneva, at the Mancy specialized home for young autistic children, violence, or at least coercion, seems to prevail over any other form of educational method—and with complete impunity. The investigation by Le Temps and heidi.news reveals that, in a climate of negligence, overwhelmed educators established a power struggle with the children. Despite several investigations and reports, and despite parents having already filed complaints, the Department of Public Instruction (DIP) took a long time to take matters into its own hands and initiate criminal proceedings. The affair sent shockwaves through the canton of Geneva and weakened the head of the DIP, Anne Emery-Torracinta. The Grand Council demanded an administrative investigation.
