Behind the University Hospital lie over 1500 skeletons

At the beginning of March, the Cantonal Archaeology Department began an excavation behind the University Hospital of Zurich. Here, where the new hospital building will be built in about seven years, the hospital cemetery was located between 1838 and 1883. This cemetery is now being excavated. Coffin after coffin, the dead were buried here, from fetuses to the elderly.

I'm a photographer from Zurich specializing in reportage and portraits. Born in Switzerland, I grew up in Singapore and have been back home since 2006. After training as a graphic designer, I studied photojournalism at MAZ, the Swiss School of Journalism. In 2022, I completed a year-long internship at the Tages-Anzeiger newspaper. Since graduating, I've worked as a freelance photographer.
