Every year on December 12, more than ten million people from all over Mexico make a pilgrimage to the Basilica of Guadalupe in Mexico City. "Our Lady of Guadalupe" is a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary of Mexican origin. According to legend, the Virgin of Guadalupe appeared to the indigenous man Juan Diego in 1531 on the hill of Tepeyac, where the basilica now stands.
