In March 2012, a 28-year-old man killed a 43-year-old escort he had arranged to come to Langenthal. The brutal homicide made headlines several times, most recently during the trial in December 2014. Not only tabloid headlines exploited the indictment down to the last gruesome detail – in the most intimate areas where some restraint would have been appropriate. Our series of articles before, during, and after the trial before the Emmental-Oberaargau Regional Court in Burgdorf demonstrates that it is possible to cover such a trial in depth while deliberately setting limits on the level of detail.
