In the heart of the other Chernobyl

Fabrice Praz

By joining the EU, Lithuania was forced to shut down its Ignalina nuclear power plant on December 31, 2009. Its two reactors were too dangerous and had the disadvantage of being twins of those at Chernobyl, only more powerful. Since then, the country has been living on Russian energy, while the plant continues to produce poison. A report from the heart of the reactors. These photos come from a report published in the daily newspaper La Cité, titled: "The Baltic countries at the mercy of Russia." Location: Visaginas (Lithuania) Date: July 2011
