The technique is called “the turtle”: With legs intertwined, the group forms a ­sitting blockade (114), while two volunteers play the parts of ­police. Tickling works, but is not allowed – legally it’s a form of physical assault, as Gaëlle, founding member of Extinction Rebellion, explains. On 16 August thirteen interested people ­receive a crash course in civil dis­obedience.
