Jean Ziegler

Nicolas Righetti

He is 86 years old and still suffering from the effects of having fallen out of bed and broken a vertebra, a year ago. “But there are bigger concerns,” says Jean Ziegler: “I live on a planet where every five seconds a child under ten dies of hunger.” This is what drives the “revolutionary struggle”, which he still wages every day, says the famous critic of capitalism and globalization: he reads, makes phone calls, writes and edits his manuscripts. It amazes even him that he occasionally finds the peace of mind to spend a couple of hours just watching the clouds go by from his terrace in the Geneva village of Russin. “I’m afraid of death,” says Ziegler, “but I believe in the resurrection.”
