Global warming is causing the glaciers to melt. But how long will it take until they are completely gone? And to what extent can climate protection slow or even stop the melting of the glaciers? Thanks to simulations by ETH Zurich and the University of Fribourg, this is visible to anyone interested. The simulation takes you through the next 80 years in fast motion. The observer chooses whether the simulation runs with or without climate protection measures. Sitting in front of the screen, you watch as the Rhône Glacier, Vadret da Morteratsch, Great Aletsch Glacier, Gorner Glacier, and Silvretta Glacier retreat further towards the mountain peaks year after year, until they are finally barely visible. In addition, graphics show how the volumes of Switzerland's 38 largest glaciers are suffering from climate change – without climate protection, all of them, with very few exceptions, would have disappeared by 2100.
