On December 27, 2016, a fire broke out above Mesocco, in the Mesolcina Valley. A massive response was launched, involving the cantonal police, the Graubünden firefighters, the civil service, and later the military. The response was complicated by a second fire in Val Calanca on the night of December 29, 2016. It involved more than 50 personnel, five Super Puma vehicles, and four civilian helicopters for 12 consecutive days.
