In Saint-Imier in the Bernese Jura, standardized garage boxes dominate the townscape. They were hastily built in the post-war period without any planning, occupying the space of former gardens and appearing as foreign elements in their surroundings. The paved driveways also alter the appearance. Many of the boxes are now too narrow for modern cars – a consequence of car overpopulation.
