La journaliste canadienne Kathy Gannon couvrait, avec sa collègue la photographe Anja Niedringhaus, les élections en Afghanistan lorsque toutes deux furent victimes d’un attentat. La photographe Anja Niedringhaus a été tuée, Kathy Gannon, grièvement blessée, a survécu: deux balles ont déchiqueté sa main droite, une a traversé son épaule droite et trois ont pratiquement arraché sa main gauche de son avant-bras. La photo a été prise le 2 mai 2016 à l’occasion du World Press Photo à Zurich.
