On October 10, 2011, a once-in-a-century flood devastated the upper Kander Valley in the Bernese Oberland. The Gastern Valley, where the Kander River originates, was literally reduced to rubble. Cut off from the outside world by land, the area was accessible only by helicopter. The "Bund" flew there and spoke with those affected. They were faced with the ruins of their lives – yet for none of those affected by the storm, leaving and giving up was an option.
