In Fribourg, Sarinia watches over traditions

Stéphanie Borcard Nicolas Métraux

Fribourg is home to fourteen student societies. A true bastion of Swiss student societies, it is the city with the largest number. Among these, Sarinia, which brings together around fifteen active members, all university students. Christians, they are fervent defenders of tradition. Friendship, science, and virtue (in the form of three colors: burgundy, white, and green, respectively) are the values they proudly advocate. The series is structured around two distinct axes: on the one hand, portraits posed in the style of old paintings, and on the other, objects representative of society. In the age of social networks such as Twitter and Facebook, joining a society, which may seem old-fashioned or even outdated, is also a way to join a powerful network: many personalities such as politicians, lawyers, and business leaders have come from them. What will the future decision-makers of tomorrow look like? This is the question our work focuses on.
