In big cities like New York and London eating vegan is a piece of cake. But what about here? Inspired by World Vegan Day, Claudia Salzmann spent a month conducting a personal experiment in our capital. She tested vegan options, talked with vegan activists, quizzed publicans, argued with omnivores about the absurdity of veganism, interviewed a nutritionist, had a vegan actress recite prejudices, and searched for the perfect non-dairy cheese in health food shops. The results were texts, pictures, videos and graphs that give a well-founded answer to the original question: It’s pretty easy to shop vegan, stop off for a vegan cuppa, or dine with like-minded friends, in Berne – and it’s getting easier all the time.
