The Nagorno-Karabakh wars have always been wars of ethnic cleansing. In the 1992-1994 war, hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis were expelled from Nagorno-Karabakh and the Armenian-occupied buffer zones in Azerbaijan. The 2020 war, in turn, drove thousands of Armenians to flee. A journey through minefields, ruins, and devastated landscapes.

Roland Schmid wurde 1966 in Basel geboren. Nach seiner Fotografenlehre bei Hugo Jaeggi machte er sich selbständig. Roland Schmid arbeitet heute als freischaffender Fotograf für zahlreiche nationale und internationale Zeitungen und Zeitschriften, sowie für Firmen und Hilfsorganisationen.
