Betruf in the Swiss Alps

Samuel Trümpy

Modernity has taken hold in the Alps, but an ancient tradition has remained alive: Every evening, Alpine herdsmen sing the "BETRUF" (Swearing). They banish the powers of nature and summon helpful forces. For a report on this tradition, I photographed three different Alps in Uri and Appenzell.
