15 years of planning, 2.5 years of construction, and 150 million Swiss francs spent in the process – on December 12, 2010, the new tram line "Bern West" opened with great fanfare. At the opening, Bern's mayor, Alexander Tschäppät, spoke of Bern West as the "trendy district of tomorrow." Cantonal transport director Barbara Egger-Jenzer philosophized about a tram that is "not just a tram." City councilor Regula Rytz promised that "the new tram will overcome the historic Röstigraben between Bern-East and Bern-West." Finally, Bernmobil director René Schmied enthusiastically announced, "With the renovations and reconstruction along the lines, the neighborhood's image has also been enhanced." And today – one year later? A listener's journey to the new trendy district. http://bit.ly/twBBVo
