Fernand is a mountain farmer. Through this portrait, I saw his wisdom, his pride, his calming presence which, in my eyes, was the very expression of what we call nobility of spirit. Photographing Fernand was a long journey, and it was only after several years and many encounters that I dared to take the picture. So I took one, then a second, and stopped. Then I came back a few days later. Dark eyes... not today. But I'm not one to give up, and today I appreciate the privilege I've been given.
