Massive allegations against the hunting administrator have caused a huge stir in Appenzell Innerrhoden. An external investigation and a criminal investigation have shown that the allegations are unfounded. Envy and resentment have driven groups of hunters. This article explores the question of how much publicity such a case requires. In the canton of Appenzell Innerrhoden, a small part of the hunting community and the cantonal hunting administrator have been in dispute since 2021. The latter is facing massive accusations from two game wardens, alleging, among other things, animal cruelty and abuse of office. The conflict is being covered by the media, including the regional journal Ostschweiz. When the cantonal government announces, based on a legal opinion, that the allegations are unfounded, SRF attempts to obtain access to the secret report. After several attempts, the request is granted, invoking the Freedom of Information Act. It emerges that while the government hasn't concealed or glossed over anything, its conduct has left room for unnecessary speculation. The regional newspaper sees itself as vindicated for having reported on the allegations with the necessary restraint. After the case has been closed, a final report offers a "look behind the journalistic scenes." This focuses on the question of how much publicity such a convoluted conflict deserves.
