A hundred-year-old maple tree had to make way for a new building in Zumikon. Then a horticulturalist, Hansueli Kobel, rescued it and brought it to his tree hotel. Old trees are a status symbol. People spend a lot of money on them to buy the illusion of time. This is the niche business of tree transplants. The tree was overwintered and laboriously transported to the Giardina on a low-loader.
