Please always credit both photographers: Daniel Auf der Mauer & Anina Gmür // For centuries, the Bedouin of the Mzayna tribe in Egypt's Sinai Desert have lived according to the rules of their tribal culture: livestock farming, religion, and family determine everyday life and social structure. These rules are gradually dissolving today, as modern media, Western values, and urban lifestyles do not spare the desert. The world is changing, especially for women. They are beginning to question traditions like circumcision and forced marriage, think about child-rearing and emancipation, and dare to express their thoughts. While they slowly outgrow their traditions, the Bedouin are trying not to lose their identity on the path to modernity.
