In a 40-part series published during 2009 and 2010, immigrants from all continents and social classes shared what brought them to Bern. They discuss their culture shocks and their opinions on society in Bern and Switzerland. The series provides an outside view of Bern from a variety of perspectives. The series appeared in the city pages of the Berner Zeitung. I was responsible for the idea, concept, coordination, and editing; I wrote about half of the portraits myself (some of which are from this year in the appendix). The response was extremely positive, so the series has now been published in book form. The subtitle: Views and Insights of 40 Immigrants. The 40 portraits are published unchanged in the book. The afterword addresses the current debate on immigration and integration policy.
