The Sila butcher shop in Buckten, Canton of Basel-Landschaft, slaughters according to Islamic law, under veterinary supervision in Switzerland. The animals are stunned with electric shock, as in conventional slaughter. However, a devout Muslim then performs the neck cutting in the slaughterhouse. Moderate Muslims accept this method.

Photographer Kostas Maros (*1980) completed a law degree at university and worked in the legal field for several years before switching to photography as a self-taught photographer in 2013. Since then, he has worked for editorial and corporate clients in Switzerland and abroad; he also realizes reportage and art projects. He is a member of the photo agency 13photo (www.13photo.ch). His artistic work is represented by Galerie Wertheimer (www.galeriewertheimer.ch). He has received awards for his photographic work, including the Prix de la Photographie Paris, the Vfg Young Talent Award, and the Swiss Press Award. In 2018, he won the Swiss Photo Award for his work "HIDDEN - Hidden Places in Switzerland."
